April Bond Update
The hustle and bustle of bond work have begun! Bids were approved by the Board of Education in December for a number of technology renovations including PA systems, phone systems, servers and storage, firewall, battery backup and power protection.
Right now, new PA systems are being installed in every building to replace the 17-year-old systems. New servers and storage will be installed later this month. Once the new servers are in place, Lake Shore will be implementing a Web Help Desk system and installing transportation management software for the Maintenance and Operations Department. In April, a new phone system, firewall and battery backup protection for all of our network equipment will be installed.
In May, teachers at Kennedy and Lake Shore will receive devices and attend training this summer to prepare for student 1:1 devices this fall. The technology department will be very busy over the summer preparing mobile devices to distribute to our middle and high students early next school year. School classrooms at the high school, middle school, and Rodgers elementary will also get new AV (audio-visual) equipment this summer to replace the current equipment that is almost 10 years old.
If your student is involved in summer programs, please make note of the locations this year. Most of our summer programs will be running at Masonic Heights due to summer construction. This includes the SACC Summer Camp that is usually at Rodgers Elementary and the Summer World Culture Camp that was at Violet last year.
Lake Shore High School will be getting five addition classrooms by remodeling existing spaces, electrical and lighting upgrades, and climate control HVAC units in over 30 classrooms and the gymnasium. LSHS bond work will continue through the 2017/2018 school year and into summer 2018. That work
will be a new concession stand at the athletic field, parking lot upgrades, roofing, auditorium seating and stage floor, cafeteria upgrades, pool filtration and other upgrades and locker room renovations.
Kennedy Middle School will have climate control HVAC units installed in all classrooms including cafeteria and gym. The kitchen and serving lines will receive upgrades, as will the electrical and lighting in the building. Classroom flooring will be replaced in most classrooms. Probably the most noticeable change at KMS for parents and the community to see will be the installation of a new electronic message marquee.
Rodgers will also receive many of the same upgrades including climate control HVAC units in all classrooms including cafeteria and gym, parking lot upgrades, and a new electronic message marquee. The Rodgers’ stage will be receiving a wheelchair lift to meet ADA compliance.
Lake Shore would like to thank our community once again for passing the bond in 2016. We are excited to bring new technology into the classrooms and into the hands of our students. The buildings upgrades that are made possible by the passing of the bond will keep our facilities strong for generations to come. Lake Shore has been around since 1924 and with our community’s support, we will continue the tradition of educational excellence.
